Welcome back to the boys and girls in first, second and third classes. We are looking forward to a great year in the middle room. The children have settled in well and are practising lots of random acts of kindness both in the classroom and outside which makes everybody happy. We are currently studying Coole Park in preparation for our forthcoming field trip which we are really looking forward to.

Thoor Ballylee and Friendship Fortnight
We have been learning about Thoor Balylee and have made models, designed pictures and painted our sketches of the castle. We are going to visit Thoor Ballylee on the 21st of September 2017. A big thank you to the parents and older siblings who helped with the models and any pictures done at home. The work done was fantastic and the children really enjoyed the experience.
Since we came back to school we have been focusing on friendship and inclusion. To this end we have been assigned buddies in the junior room, we have a buddy bench in the yard to ensure everybody is included and we have designed posters and slogans to encourage friendship.
Welcome back 2017 - 2018
A big welcome back to our First, Second and Third class children. We are very excited to be back and are looking forward to a great year in St. Thomas N.S. We have had a very exciting start to our school year with our Senior and Minor hurlers winning the All Ireland finals. We were very lucky that the Galway captain, David Burke and Mr. Cooney brought the Liam Mc Carthy Cup to our school. We all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

Online resources
Having had a great school year 2015-2016 and with great progress made,it would be very beneficial for children to maintain this by staying in touch with their learning during the summer holidays.
Reading and discussing books is of huge benefit to all. Parents can download lots of books, graded according to age, from an excellent online reading resource, Oxford Owl. These are the steps required to access this resource.

Useful website for spelling
In learning spellings, children often enjoy wordsearches as a means of consolidating and focussing on particular letter strings in words. As a parent you can create your own wordsearch for your child using the following website:
