September in the middle room

We have been very busy in 2nd, 3rd and 4th class this month. We are enjoying being back at school, learning and having fun with our friends.

We were busy bees during Friendship Fortnight. We made colorful friendship bracelets and thought of slogans to write on them like ‘be kind’ and ‘sharing is caring’. We also talked to our partner about ways to be a good friend at break time, on the yard and in class. We also enjoyed guessing who our ‘secret friend’ was at the end of the week and giving each other lots of compliments.

In Art we were working on the theme ‘Autumn’. We made some autumnal trees. First we traced around our arms to make the branches. We then created the leaves using our fingers and cotton buds. Everyone did an amazing job!

In Gaeilge, we were working on the theme Mé Féin. Here are some wonderful examples of what we have learned to say about ourselves from Aaron, Eve and Anna. Sár – obair.

In English, we have been working on writing Recounts. Here are some super examples of ‘My Most Recent Birthday’ from Finn, Alex, Aveen, Pádraig, Manus and Méabh.

It is wonderful to be back in school and we have had a very busy month. We celebrated our first week back to school with a pizza party. We have had a bumper month of art with Mother's Day, St. Patrick's Day. Comórtas ealaíne and our upcoming Easter art. The children have also had hurling sessions with Mr. Mulkerrins which they have really enjoyed. They have learnt the Cup Song and the dance for An Dreoilín.  Second Class are continuing their sacrament preparations and have made lovely pictures of the steps to Reconciliation. We have discussed Lent and all classes are making a special effort to be kind to each other. We had a great Seachtain na Gaeilge with plenty of winners in bingo, quiz and art competitions. .

Climate Change Art using Recyclables

Our art this week was based on climate change. The children  used  recyclables to create their own models and had great fun doing so.

Report Writing October 2020

This month we wrote reports on Autumn and Climate Change. We looked at report writing, discussed the topics extensively and gathered information particularly on Climate Change. In the case of climate change the children were able to explain its causes, its effects and the ways we can help to save our planet.

Art based on designing our homes

Homes

This week we looked at buildings particularly houses. The children designed their own houses on paper first and then they made models of them.

Some current class news.
As this is science week we are going to have a lego challenge on Friday. Each child will make a lego model of their choice.
We have examined various materials in the school yard and pitch, named and described them.
We are also looking at water as part of science week eg. its density as a way of explaining why ice floats, fresh water stays on top of  salt water and hot water on top of cold water.
We will also be looking at how underwater animals adapt to their environment and much more

Second class will be doing a prayer service in a fortnight's  time in preparation for their first penance.
