Shared Reading

Shared Reading

Shared reading is an excellent method of improving a child's reading, providing a positive experience for both parent and child.

The child chooses a book appropiate to her/his ability and age.
S/he reads the book for ten minutes a night with a parent or guardian.
When the child comes to an unknown word the parent or guardian reads the word and both parent and child read on together.
When the child is ready to continue reading alone, s/he nudges the parent or guardian to stop and reads on until such time as another unknown word appears and the same procedure is carried out.

Research shows that a child's reading benefits greatly from shared reading.

Fantastic Students!

Our teacher Ms Marron says we are all fantastic students. She asked us to publish some of our work on our blog.

Daedalus and Icarus

Setting: Greece and Crete
A man built a palace for a king. The king kept the man and his son prisoner. They tried to escape but Daedalus got back but his son didn’t.

I liked the story because it was interesting.

My favourite character was Daedalus because he built a palace.

Bed Time

First I go into my PJs. Then I go in the bed. The time I go to bed is 9 o’clock. I look at the wall for five minutes. I am asleep in no time. I dream I’m a good girl and all my brothers are devils.

Ted has a shed. It is red. Ted has a bed. It is red too.
Ted gets a pet. He puts him in the shed. The vet led
the pet to a wet shed. The pet’s leg was sore.
The vet set his leg. The pet’s leg gets better.

Meg saw it in the tree. She rescued it. His owner was a witch.
She fell off her broomstick. Meg brought it home. Her Mammy helped her dry it.
